When I began Postal-iNDY.com about 9 years ago it was meant as a communications tool for my Local’s Legislative Committee. In the time since then it has transformed into an alternative to my Local’s official publication. This led to it becoming an information source for my Local’s members and postal-workers in general in the central Indiana area. In the last year alone the website has averaged about 1400 hits a month while unofficially serving a membership of less than 1300 of which many don’t have internet access.
Over 1300 of our page views have reached 9 countries outside the United States.
Our most popular post was our original article: ”Management Proposes: Equal Work For Less Pay” which addressed managements ‘two tier’ wage proposal in the early stages of the recent APWU contract negotiations. A proposal that made its way into the approved contract. That article has been read over 4166 times.
Is This The End?
I had found that my Local’s official publication, the ‘Indy Info’, had been steadily becoming less and less relevant over the last ten years, and this irrelevance was contributing to an already spiraling sense of apathy in my local. I felt that the key to reversing this apathy was a rejuvenation of the local’s newspaper and a straight forward attack on the apathy by promoting the ‘inform and educate’ aspect of unionism. Updating, promoting and strengthening the Indy Info was the solution to our problems, not the cause, but as apathy, declining membership and budget woes increased the Indy Info became less dependable and less relevant.
Following the last three local elections I have actively sought the appointed position of Indy Info Editor with the intent of addressing these issues. Part of that strategy was to develop Postal-Indy [what began as a committee communications tool] into a model of what the Indy Info could and should be.
Having finally obtained the position of editor I now face a major transitioning of my plans into action. What it has taken 10 years to make Postal-iNDY.com I have months to achieve with the Indy Info. That will leave little time to maintain and update Postal-Indy.com .
What Next?
Postal Indy will remain ‘up’ until at least April 2012. All the automatic feeds will remain active and all past post will be accessible until then, and I will simu-post my personal post from the Indy-Info, but other updates will only be occasional. Unless someone purchases Postal-Indy.com or takes it over.the future of Postal-Indy.com is uncertain after April 2012. I will post a live feed from the new Indy Info website on Postal-Indy.com. It would be my suggestion that you follow both the Indy Info website and Postal-Indy.com.
Once I have completed my work as the editor of the Indy Info I will not be certain of the future of Postal-Indy.com,
